4-Tier H-Type Layer Cage Project for 30,240 Birds in Ghana

This Ghana project was designed for a commercial layer farm with a planned capacity of around 30,000 laying hens.

LIVI supplied a 4-tier H-type layer cage solution using 210 cage sets. The cages are arranged in three rows, with 70 sets in each row. Each cage set accommodates 144 layers, giving the completed project a designed capacity of 30,240 birds.

30000 Layer Farm Project in Ghana Overview

The Ghana customer planned to develop a commercial egg farm for approximately 30,000 laying hens and contacted LIVI for the cage configuration and farm layout.

The poultry house prepared for the project measures 92 × 12 × 3.5 m. Instead of using a low-density cage arrangement, the customer chose a 4-tier H-type layer cage system to establish a more intensive commercial layer farm.

After confirming the required flock size and cage arrangement, the final solution was set at 210 cage sets. This brought the actual designed capacity slightly above the original 30,000-bird target to 30,240 layers.

Birds per Set 144 Layers

The Customer’s 30,000-Layer Farm Plan

The customer’s goal was clear: build a commercial layer farm capable of keeping around 30,000 hens in one organized production system.

At this scale, the customer wanted a cage system that could provide a higher stocking capacity without turning the poultry house into a difficult-to-manage collection of individual cage units.

After reviewing the project requirements, LIVI recommended the 4-tier H-type layer cage. The H-type configuration allowed the 30,000-bird target to be organized into three regular production rows and also created a clear structure for the farm’s later operation.

The Final LIVI Cage Solution

The final cage arrangement consists of three rows of H-type cages. Each row contains 70 cage sets, giving the project 210 cage sets in total.

3 rows × 70 sets = 210 cage sets

210 sets × 144 layers = 30,240 birds

This is why the project is described as a 30,000-layer farm while the actual equipment configuration provides space for 30,240 hens.

Using complete cage sets rather than forcing the configuration to stop at exactly 30,000 birds gave the customer a clean and consistent three-row layout.

Why a 4-Tier H-Type Cage Was Chosen

The customer was developing a commercial farm rather than a small starter poultry house, so the cage system needed to support a relatively large flock in a clear and organized layout.

The selected cage model measures 1200 × 625 × 430 mm and accommodates 144 layers per complete set. The four-tier arrangement makes better use of vertical space while keeping all three cage rows consistent throughout the poultry house.

For this project, the H-type solution was therefore not selected simply because it could hold more birds. It gave the customer a practical structure for building a commercial layer farm around a 30,000-bird production target.

More Than 210 Sets of Chicken Cages

A project of this size is not treated as a simple cage purchase. The cage rows form the main production area of the farm, while the supporting equipment can be coordinated around the same H-type system.

For commercial H-type layer farms, the system can be matched with automatic feeding, nipple drinking, belt manure removal and egg collection according to the customer’s required automation level.

Feeding & Drinking
Feeding and nipple drinking systems can operate along the same cage rows for centralized daily management.
Manure Removal
Belt-type manure removal can be integrated beneath the H-type cage tiers.
Egg Collection
Egg collection equipment can transfer eggs from the cage rows toward a centralized collection point.

Final Project Configuration

After the cage specification and layout were confirmed, the Ghana project was finalized as a 30,240-layer commercial H-type cage farm.

The customer’s original target was approximately 30,000 birds. The final 210-set configuration achieved that target using three uniform cage rows and a single 4-tier H-type cage specification throughout the poultry house.

What This Ghana Project Shows

This project is a useful reference for poultry investors who are planning a commercial layer farm at around the 30,000-bird scale.

The final solution did not depend on an overly complicated cage arrangement. The customer received a straightforward configuration: three H-type cage rows, 70 sets in each row and 210 cage sets in total.

The result is a clear 30,240-layer production layout that can also support the automatic equipment required as the farm moves into commercial operation.
